The Tucson Roadrunners continued their hot start to the season with an overtime win over the Cleveland Monsters Saturday night.
With their only regulation loss coming against the San Diego Gulls on opening night, the Roadrunners are 6-1-2 and on an 8-game point streak. After the win Saturday night, Tucson has tied the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins for the best points percentage in the AHL.
Tucson’s top line of Crouse-Strome-Merkley has looked impressive thus far. Dylan Strome has 10 points (1G, 9A) in 8 games and was also named AHL player of the week last week. Nick Merkley has 9 points (6G, 3A) in 9 games, including Saturday’s overtime winner. Lawson Crouse also has 2 assists in 4 games with the Roadrunners.
While an injury to Coyotes goaltender Antti Raanta and Louis Domingue‘s struggles resulted in call-ups for both Adin Hill and Hunter Miska, goaltending hasn’t been a problem for Tucson. Both Hill and Miska have been solid, as well as Marek Langhamer.
The Roadrunners next face off against the Bakersfield Condors on Friday.
