Through their first 41 games, the Vegas Golden Knights have greatly exceeded expectations. Entering their bye week, they find themselves sitting in first place in the Pacific division and second overall in league standings behind only the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Despite preseason predictions and goaltending that was plagued with injury, at the halfway point in their inaugural season, the Golden Knights are at the top of the Western Conference with 60 points (29-10-2).
Vegas is well on its way to having the most successful first season of any expansion team in NHL history, on pace to not only finish with a winning record and 120 points but also to make the playoffs.
To add on to an already highlight reel season, on Wednesday forward James Neal and goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury were both named to the Pacific Division all-star team, joining their head coach Gerard Gallant in the NHL All-Star Weekend festivities later this month.
The Golden Knights return to action from their bye week to take on the Edmonton Oilers at home Saturday January 13th at 7:00pm.
